William Hanley

President, Chief Executive Officer and Director

Mr. Hanley has been a director of the company since 2005 and its President and CEO since January 2010.

 

Since July 2007, he has been Chairman, CEO and President of Optical Alchemy, Inc.  Prior positions include that of Chairman of Video Communications, Inc.; Chairman, President and CEO of Millitech, Inc.; Executive Vice-President of the Hanson Group, Ltd.; and President and CEO of Galileo Corporation.  At Millitech, Mr. Hanley grew revenue organically from $4 million to $25 million before selling the company in 2005 to a $5 billion firm.

 

Mr. Hanley has been a CEO of both publicly traded and privately held small companies for over 25 years and has led four successful business exits in the last ten years.

 

He has made appearances on CNN Business Day, MacNeil/Lehrer Business Hour and other national television and media programs.



Alan James Olsen

Chairman of the Board

Mr. Olsen is Chairman of the Board of Atlas Spine.  He is also Chairman of the Board of SpineGuard, SA.  Spine Guard’s primary business objective is to establish PediGuard® as the standard of care in safer pedicle screw placement.  Additionally, Mr. Olsen is founder and Chairman of the Board of Robomedica, Inc., a company that develops, manufactures and markets robotic and interactive devices that automate rehabilitation therapies for patients with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and stroke.

 

Previously, Mr. Olsen was founder and President of Danek Medical, Inc.  The subsequent $218 million merger of Sofamor, Inc. and Danek created the largest supplier of implants, computer-assisted surgery products, and biologics for spinal surgery and neurosurgery in the world.  At the time of the merger, Danek had annual revenue of approximately $90 million.  Medtronic, Inc. acquired Sofamor Danek Group in January 1999 for $3.6 billion.

 

Mr. Olsen has been a founding investor in and/or has sat on the boards of six medical device companies that have been acquired, gone public, or are still independent, on-going concerns.



Matthew Baynham

Co-Founder, Chief Technology Officer and Director

Mr. Baynham is the Chief Technology Officer and a co-founder of Atlas Spine.  He began his career with Acromed, at that time the second largest spine company in the world.  Thereafter, he was with DePuy Spine where he received an intensive and highly technical education in spinal surgery and biomechanics.  At DePuy Spine he received extensive exposure to spinal surgery under the tutelage of Harry Schufelbarger.

 

Since the early 1990’s, Mr. Baynham has attended over 4,000 surgeries.  As a result, he has developed a keen understanding of the challenges and shortcomings of several generations of implants and instrumentation.  He founded BayMed Corporation to capitalize on this experience.  The company designed custom instrumentation for surgeons, distributors and hospitals.  He licensed many of these designs to Spine Tech (Zimmer Spine), Blackstone Medical, and DePuy Acromed.  To date, Mr. Baynham has 7 issued patents, 30 patents pending, and +60 additional product concepts in varying stages of development.

 

In 2005, Mr. Baynham, along with Drs Clay Baynham, Bret Baynham and David Campbell, founded Atlas Spine.  The Company fills a significant void in the spinal implant market, focusing on design that is responsive to the needs of the spine surgeon.



Clay Baynham, M.D.

Dr. Baynham is a founder of and significant investor in Atlas Spine.  He served as a Director since the inception of the company.  Dr. Baynham is an orthopedic, board-certified spine surgeon.

 

He completed a fellowship at the Lakewood Orthopedic Clinic in Denver, Colorado, under David R. Donaldson.

 

Dr. Baynham completed fellowship training in reconstructive spine surgery at the Kerlin-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Inglewood, California, under Robert Watkins.



Douglas C. Watson

Mr. Watson is a private investor.  Previously, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ondine Biopharma Corporation (TSX:OBP) and GenSci Regeneration Sciences, Inc. (TSX:GNX).  GenSci subsequently merged with Isotis S.A. (NASDAQ: ISTSF.PK), which was later acquired by Integra Life Sciences Corporation.  Working closely with company management, Mr. Watson has been instrumental in helping the company develop and build its operating structure and systems.

 

Early in his career, Mr. Watson served in various sales and marketing, and business development capacities including work with three startup companies where he was involved in product launch, distribution network development, sales and marketing, and strategic planning.



Andrius Pranskevicius serves as director of Atlas Spine.  He is currently Vice President of Precision Machine Technology based in Miami, Florida, which manufactures precision medical devices.  Andrius brings a volume of knowledge from his experience in the international business development assisting Atlas Spine to achieve their company goals.  Andrius has held prior positions of CEO and CFO, while working in Lithuania, Ukraine, Romania, Netherlands, and Bulgaria.  He is highly skilled in research, sales and forecast of product development.
