Douglass C. Watson
President, Chief Executive Officer and Director
Mr. Watson is a private investor. Previously, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ondine Biopharma Corporation (TSX:OBP) and GenSci Regeneration Sciences, Inc. (TSX:GNX). GenSci subsequently merged with Isotis S.A. (NASDAQ: ISTSF.PK), which was later acquired by Integra Life Sciences Corporation. Working closely with company management, Mr. Watson has been instrumental in helping the company develop and build its operating structure and systems.
Early in his career, Mr. Watson served in various sales and marketing, and business development capacities including work with three startup companies where he was involved in product launch, distribution network development, sales and marketing, and strategic planning.
Co-Founder, Chief Technology Officer and Director
Mr. Baynham is the Chief Technology Officer and a co-founder of Atlas Spine. He began his career with Acromed, at that time the second largest spine company in the world. Thereafter, he was with DePuy Spine where he received an intensive and highly technical education in spinal surgery and biomechanics. At DePuy Spine he received extensive exposure to spinal surgery under the tutelage of Harry Schufelbarger.
Since the early 1990’s, Mr. Baynham has attended over 4,000 surgeries. As a result, he has developed a keen understanding of the challenges and shortcomings of several generations of implants and instrumentation. He founded BayMed Corporation to capitalize on this experience. The company designed custom instrumentation for surgeons, distributors and hospitals. He licensed many of these designs to Spine Tech (Zimmer Spine), Blackstone Medical, and DePuy Acromed. To date, Mr. Baynham has 7 issued patents, 30 patents pending, and +60 additional product concepts in varying stages of development.
In 2005, Mr. Baynham, along with Drs Clay Baynham, Bret Baynham and David Campbell, founded Atlas Spine. The Company fills a significant void in the spinal implant market, focusing on design that is responsive to the needs of the spine surgeon.
Director of Engineering
Mr. Zarda brings to Atlas Spine over ten years of research management and technical development experience, seven of those specifically in the medical device industry. Prior to Atlas Spine, Mr Zarda was with Depuy Spine as a Sr. Product Development Engineer. During his employment at Depuy, he served a variety of engineering roles gaining expertise across multiple pathologies with experience ranging from mechanical testing to custom instrument design. Mr Zarda has had extensive involvement in launching several product lines and is a
co-inventor on multiple patents. He has a MS in Bioengineering from Brown University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida.
Tom joined Atlas Spine in early 2011 as Manager of Regulatory Affairs & Quality Assurance. He has over 20 years of Quality Management System development experience in multiple industries with over 13 years specifically in the Medical Device Industry. Prior to Atlas Spine, he held multiple Regulatory & Quality positions for U.S. Spine, Encore Medical and Applied Spine, a Class III Dynamic Stabilization Spinal device. Tom majored in Business Administration at Wayland Baptist University.
Jesse has extensive experience in both Procurement and Inventory Control. He is a certified Senior Professional in Supply Management and he holds multiple certifications in Inventory and Distribution Management. Jesse has been with Atlas Spine since 2007.
Tina brings over 15 years of accounting experience in both the manufacturing and healthcare industries to her position as at Atlas Spine. After graduating from Kent State University in 1998 with a BBA in accounting, she began her career at Noral, Inc., a thermocouple manufacturer in Cleveland, Ohio. She then transitioned to Neo•Pet, LLC, a mobile nuclear imaging provider in 2003 as a Corporate Accountant. Not only does she hold a Bachelors in Business Administration in Accounting, but she is also a licensed CPA.
